Ch. 8

Chapter Eight

Respond to 2 of the 3 questions below.
1- What is Equality experiencing for the first time in this chapter? What does he feel as a result?

2- Explain why Equality laughs when he remembers that he is “the Damned.”

3- Equality bends to get a drink of water and has a new experience (pg 80). What is the new experience? How does he react?

  5. 2. The reason why Equality laughs whenever he remembers he's "the Damned," is because he no longer fears the Council. He laughs because he thinks its funny because he never has to be under control of the Council anymore.

  7. 1. In this chapter, Equality finally feels free. He is in the Uncharted Forest, where no one will go to search for him, so he is finally alone and able to think and speak for himself.

    2. Equality finds that fact that he one of "the Damned" very funny. He feels that everyone that has never thought for them self is "the Damned" because they're never going to be any different than anyone else, and that is worse than being punished for being yourself.

  8. 2. He laughs because the council no longer has control over him. He can be his own person in the uncharted forest.

    3.He sees his reflection for the first time. He finally gets to see what other people see him as. He is amazed and loves what he looks like.

    1. Nice response. It says exactly this in the book. "For our face and our body were beautiful. Our face was not like the faces of our brothers, for we felt no pity when looking upon it."

    2. For number 3 he went up to a stream not a fountain, and he was fascinated in seeing himself which he had never seen before.

  13. 2. He laughs when he remembers that he is the damned because he realizes that it is way better than being controlled by fear like the other street sweepers that wake up screaming.
    3. He sees himself for the first time when he went to get a drink of water. He thinks he look strong, and different from the others, like a guy he could trust.

    3. When Equality knelt down to get a drink he finally saw himself with his own eyes. He considered himself beautiful, unlike his brothers and had no pity thinking so.

  18. 2. I think he thinks its funny how he is happier and free out on his known then being controlled by the council. He thinks they're the damned ones.
    3. For the first time Equality sees his own face. He is happy that he looks different from the rest of the people.
