ReplyDelete3. Equality refers to himself as we because everybody is equal. There is not an I because nobody is better than anybody. That’s why he refers to himself as we.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. In the society they live in the government doesn’t want anyone to be different from any other.
Delete3. He refers to himself as “we” because he was taught that everyone should never refer to themselves but to think of other. That is why he was happy about becoming a street sweeper “for his fellow bothers” he said.
ReplyDeleteI agree good answer Corey
DeleteI agree Corey. He was taught that everyone is the same and that everyone is equal.
DeleteI'm with corey, That's how he was taught so he knows no different.
Delete3. The reason why Equality claims hinself as "we", is because he beleives that every man, wemon, and child are equal and evil. He thinks that if everyone is the same then nobody can be better than anyone else. This is why he removed the word "I" from the english language.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I think. If he was taught to believe that they all are equal then he would not know any better.
Delete4. No i would absolutly not like it if some of my friends were to think and act like Equality. The reason being, is because if all of my friends were equal and the same, then everything would be completly boring. Friends are so much better as different people than the same.
ReplyDelete1. In the chapter, the author used certain words to describe five men. She described them as very old with white hair and a dry cracked face. Also she explained the lighting in a room as "burning without a flame" creating imagery.
ReplyDelete3. Equality prefers himself as we, because in the world he is in it is a sin to standout from everybody else. The I is meaning of one individual therefore can not be used because of the law. That is why I has to be substituted with we so they can all stand together.
ReplyDeleteI agree they live in a world where it is a sin to stand out.
Delete4. Yes, because Equality stands out from the rest. He also found a tunnel underground that him and his friend can go to. I think it would be good to go there to escape from the madness of this extreme law of equality.
ReplyDeleteI can completely agree with you, Kelsie. If I was in this time period, I would want to be friends with someone who stands out and who is not afraid to be outspoken.
DeleteI agree with Kelsie and Madison. I would love to be friends with someone who likes to stand out instead of fitting into the in-crowd.
Delete1. Two examples of color imagery are; 1) "...the sky is blue with a deep brightness, which is not so bright." 2) "...the sky is a soggy purple when we return to the Home." The author, Ayn, is trying to convey a sense of a gloomy, melancholy setting to the story.
ReplyDelete2. It is considered a sin because no one else is thinking these thoughts or words. They think doing things alone is a sin unless they are given permission. Therefor, equality 7-2521 thinks he is committing a sin.
ReplyDelete3. Equality 7-2521 refers to himself as “we” because everyone is considered the same. There is no one individual that is supposed to stick out more than the other. It is also a sin to be alone so maybe he says we to feel like he isn’t alone so we feels like he isn’t committing a sin.
ReplyDelete3. Equality refers to himself as "we" because, in the story they grew up learning that everyone is equal. No person is better than another. They learned that there all one, nobody is an individual. It is a sin to standout, so they all are one.
ReplyDelete4. I would not enjoy being friends with someone like equality. I like my friends to be different, I want friends who would stand out, I feel like equality as a friend would be heard to deal with because if you would do anything he couldnt he would feel that you were better than him since he was brought up believeing that everyone had to be the same, there was no other choice for that.
ReplyDeleteI agree because i felt the same way pretty much
Delete4. i would want to be friends with him for a little bit but not for a long. It upsets me to see people by them selfs and have no friends. i would go try to be friends with him. But if he didn't want me to it wouldn't bother me anymore.
ReplyDeleteEquality is comming a sin when he writes, because he isn't allowed to write unless the Council of Vocations bids him so. He also believes that it's a sin to think words no others think and put them down on paper for no others to see. He finds it evil and believes it's wrong to speak or think alone.
ReplyDeleteHe refers to himself as we because thats the way he grew up.
ReplyDelete4. I would want to be friends with someone like Equality because he's out going and doesn't want to be the same as everybody else. He wants to stand out in the crowd, and to be heard.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree Kiera. I think it would be pretty boring to be friends with someone that doesn't think or do anything out of the ordinary. It would be almost impossible to communicate with them if the person won't speak for them self.
DeleteI also agree. I wouldn't be able to handle not being able to do what I want. It'd get old being friends with people who has no different characteristics than you. You all like the same things instead of being able to try new things. We all need different people in our lives.
DeleteI agree also because if everyone was the same and thought the same there would be nothing different or interesting in the world. You would all know the same thing and nothing would be fun or nothing would be new to learn.
DeleteShe contrasted Equality 7-2521's physical attributes by giving him unordinary qualities. For example, she made him six feet tall. This made him feel as if he had a curse and that his body has grown beyond all others.
ReplyDeleteAyn Rand wanted him to stand out, because she wanted to make a statement that not everybodies equal. That people can have there own ways of life.
ReplyDelete2. On the first page of the story, Equality says "It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see." He has always been taught that thinking or doing something for yourself is base and evil. Because of that, he thinks that anything he does by himself that no one else knows about means he is sinning.
ReplyDelete5. Equality definitely stands out from his brothers in terms of his physical features and abilities. He has grown to be taller than all of his brothers, so his teachers have always told him that he has "evil in his bones". He was also forbidden to ask questions in school because he learned things too quickly.
1. On page 18 Ayn Rand uses the phrase black and glistening as blood to describe the water coming from the cracks in the walls. She uses color imagery again when she describes the sky as a soggy purple. I think she uses the darker color imagery to convey a feeling of gloominess throughout chapter one because she wants us to know the setting is scary and unnerving.
ReplyDelete4. I would want to be friends with equality because he stands out. He has a desire to learn about the world around him no matter what the risk. If I were in that setting I don’t think I could keep from wondering about the outside world either.
ReplyDelete4. I would be fiend’s whit Equality because he is different than everyone else, intelligent, and curious.
ReplyDeleteCh 1 he refers to himself as we because everyone is equal to each other

ReplyDelete3. He is considered as "we" because they can't do things alone. They can't talk alone, they can't do things they want to do without everyone else doing the same. They have to walk and talk the same. They even have to be the same height. They can't be considered one of a kind. They're all the same equally.
ReplyDelete4. No, personally I wouldn't want to be friends with a group of people doing the same exact things every day. It would drive me to the point where I'd force them to be themselves because it's not right to be forced to do what you don't want to do. Especially being forced to be the same height as everyone else. It'd drive me insane.
3. because everyone is equal
ReplyDelete4. No, i couldnt trust him
ReplyDelete2. The laws of the society go against what he is doing.
ReplyDelete3. He references to himself as we because his society has lost the concept of I.
2. Equality is sinning when he writes cause in the book it says "It is a sin to think words no others think and to put them down upon a paper no others are to see." So when he writes he is thinking what no other man is thinking so he is breaking the laws. When you break the law it is sinning and it is evil to sin.
ReplyDelete3. Equality refers himself as we because there is no I all men are the same there is only the great we. Every man is the same and there is no man better than another so all is we not I. No other man shall stick out more than any other man. That is why they refer themselves as we and no I.
3. Equality refers to himself as we because everyone is equal. He believes no other person should stand out in anyway.
ReplyDelete4. I would want to be friends with Equality because he is different, and believes everyone should be treated the same.
